Bowlers flock to Edmonton for national 5-pin competition

The country’s top pentathlon bowlers were in Edmonton to compete in the Canadian Master Bowlers Nationals.

Hosted at Bonnie Doon Bowling Lanes, participants aged 18 to 80 filled all 48 lanes to compete on the first day of bowling across many sections, including singles, seniors and teaching.

Kelly Cornelius, event chair, told CTV News that 264 people are taking part in the five-day event that many are looking forward to after the pandemic postponements.

‘It’s amazing seeing all the people from all over Canada cheering for their teams and visiting each other cuddling because we haven’t done that in a long time,’ she added.

The volunteer-driven event is a live stream of some events so that family members and loved ones back home can watch the competitors.

‘This is as big as bowling,’ said Cornelius. ‘There are some good bowlers here, very good competition.’
